However it is more likely that a mortgage will be required and there will be a chain of transactions and if that is the case it will usually take 4-6 weeks to exchange contracts and then another 2-4 weeks between exchange of contracts and completion making a total of 6-10 weeks from start to finish.

Horrible. Went there for our mortgage advise. Didn't even speak to us bur simply handed us an envelope and asked us to fill up and come back. No communication, no conversation whatsoever considering we were first-time buyers! Of course we didn't pick them at the end of it. We need a solicitor who'd, for a start, be willing to talk!
