The Sex Discrimination Act 1975 which applies in England, Scotland and Wales prohibits discrimination on the basis of a person's gender or marital status and covers transsexuals. Similar legislation applies in Northern Ireland. Sex Discrimination Act 1975 - Establishes that differential treatment of employees based solely on their marital status or sex is unlawful.
The Race Relations Act 1976 protects more than just employees. It also applies to job applicants, contract workers and individuals who are self-employed. Throughout the entire process of applying for and obtaining employment, all of these individuals are protected from racial discrimination, victimisation and harassment.
