I've used Gilbert and Stephens for a number of years, be it buying and selling land and/ or property. I've not always agreed with one of their solicitors but I always go back to them. Perhaps the following sums it up. I was in the trade as a legal executive for some 17 years with 2 other firms. So I trust this firm. P.s No I've never worked for this firm, I came to use their services by a chance meeting with one of the partners a number of years ago and have not gone elsewhere since.

My experience with Gilbert Stephens was very poor. The Legal Executive at Ottery St Mary made a couple of errors (in my opinion).they incorrectly calculated the deposit needed to purchase my house and told me on a Friday of the error, the day we were to exchange and then went home for the weekend! without trying to rectify the issue.and no apology either. Then, 12 months after the purchase I found that the Legal Exec had not followed up with the Land Registry and the application for completion was unresolved!

The day I chased it (due to a remortgage) it was sorted that day. Again no apology. There is also no complaints procedure. I have made a complaint, but no response. I contacted the Managing Partner, Terry Bastyan.again, no apology, no response. I would not recommend this company after my experience with them.

Never answered the phone and only called back once but not to any of the other messages

We cannot thank both Sarah Heath and Laura Newbould who acted for us for a conveyancing matter. They were professional at all times and we cannot fault them. They were efficient at all times and responded to all enquiries, emails and calls promptly and no job was ever too small. They were kind enough to explain things in detail that were somewhat confusing to a first-time buyer and for what was a stressful time trying to buy a first home during a pandemic was a true indication of their skill, professionalism and dedication, causing us minimum stress.

It was reassuring having someone act for you in a time of uncertainty knowing they were doing their absolute best for you, answered all calls and emails and there was not one period of silence at any time from them. We would not hesitate to recommend Gilbert Stephens to anyone. We will definitely be using Gilbert Stephens in the future, hopefully both of these girls too.

Really poor customer service, desided to look for another legal team to deal with my conveyencing

We went through a torrid time trying to buy our frist house; cancelled completion dates, undeclared covenants and liabilities. Throughout it all Gilbert Stephens supported us, gave us accurate and professional advice and detialed report's. They dealt with far less able solicitors and some very egregious estate agent's excellently. The fees structure was fair and wholly transparent. Strongly recommend.
