Unbelievably incompetent. I went to have Deed Poll forms witnessed and checked over. The solicitor I had the appointment with made excuses to leave after five minutes and sent in another who (to be fair) confessed that she hadn't done them before and wasn't sure what was required. Sure enough the forms came back from the Deed Poll office marked as incorrectly completed so I made an appointment to try again.
The solicitor I had the second appointment with tried to pass us on to someone else as soon as we arrived, then left us waiting in an office for 25 minutes with no explanation. When he finally came back he confessed to not understanding the forms and sent us away to find out for ourselves how they should be filled in. Complete waste of time.

Very strongly recommend against their conveyancing. Most importantly, they had no consideration for the fact that we were first time buyers. Difficult to get straight answers out of them, lots of information sent with no context or explanation, long waits between communication (even the seller complained to us about them taking a long time to respond!), incompletely photocopied documents sent to us, no consistency in who dealt with our requests, seemingly simple things missed, and so on. Have heard good things about them, but definitely did not experience that ourselves.

Dealt with their Beeston office over making our wills a few years back and was very pleased with their service. Hence the three stars for their service overall and not one for today's. On the other hand, I rang them this week over an issue that was serious and one I needed advice for urgently. Receptionist (why oh why don't solicitors have trained legal staff as the first telephone contact point?), was pleasant enough, but like so many other solicitors receptionists, wasn't sure if they covered that area of law or not.
Why don't they know? Would a greengrocers know if they sold apples, or would they have to go and check? She said she would ask for me to be called back within 30 minutes. I said I would sit and wait for the call back in my car and again reiterated the matter was urgent. Guess what? No call back within 30 minutes, and no call back at all. I assume whoever was meant to ring me back, once they found out what the area of law was, knew they didn't deal with it, so just didn't bother to ring me to tell me, or perhaps they just forgot to.
This tardy way of reacting (or not reacting) is not unique to this particular solicitors, but to solicitors in general in my direct experience. Nothing has progressed in terms of initial proactive communication in decades with so many legal firms. Why? I don't know. Thankfully, I later found a Mansfield solicitors that immediately took on board the issue. A breath of fresh air after the previous frustration.

I used their conveyancing services which was excellent. My application for a buy to let purchase was swift and all aspect of the sale and my questions were answered clearly. Site parking was available when I would attend an appointment, however mid day there are little to none available so be aware. Supporting staff were very helpful and dealt with some of the paperwork, saved me a lot of time. Highley recommended, I will definitely use their services for my next property purchase.

Our offer was accepted on our first property in February 2017. It is now 11 months later and we have still not completed. Our solicitor resigned months ago and we were not informed. The last conversation we had with the solicitors was 2 months ago and we have had no update since. The fees that we are having to pay are ridiculous considering we have had to liaise with the vendor of the property ourselves to find out what is going on.
At one point, even the vendor’s solicitor had to get in touch with the estate agent to ask us to provide an update from our solicitor. We are not happy with the service at all.

We have been extremely pleased with the service from Ellis Fermor & Negus. We were first time buyers and had little knowledge of the process and legal side of things. Our solicitor was very thorough and timely, we felt in excellent hands. When visiting the office everyone was very friendly too. Would definitely recommend.
