A positive, "can do" attitude lies at the heart of our approach to delivering exceptional client service. This active, dynamic approach is a reflection of the culture and ethos of the firm where strong technical ability is combined with a deep seated commitment to driving things forward and helping our clients to succeed.
Awdry Bailey and Douglas can trace its history back to approximately 1750. The firm's original founder was William Salmon who started his professional life as a young Attorney in Devizes in the mid-1700s. His son William Salmon the Second, continued the legal practice and became the owner of much of Devizes Castle and co-founded the first bank in Devizes, situated in St John's Street close to the firm's premises. The firm's first most notable client was probably Henry Addington, the 1st Viscount Sidmouth, who later became Prime Minister from 1801-1804.
In today's commercial environment effective legal advice is an essential tool. Business life is fast moving and demanding and we understand the pressures involved and the requirements of our commercial clients. We bring a combination of legal expertise, common sense and an understanding of how businesses operate in the real world.
Wiltshire is a rural county so it's no surprise that we have vast practical experience acting for farmers and landowners on a wide range of agricultural issues. We have developed a detailed understanding of the issues facing those involved in agriculture and advise on all types of agricultural matters.

I first met Peter Berry and some of his colleagues of Awdry Bailey & Douglas through local networking via Sterling in Swindon and found him very easy to chat with. I'm fortunate that I've not needed Peter's skills personally, with his area of expertise being family law, but I have seen the impact he can have on those who do need him. What struck me about Peter was his focus on the future for his clients and the wider family and not just the numbers (something that really resonates with me as part of a forward looking accountancy business) I've seen many family issues for clients over the years but with Peter's approach I know that he'll make the toughest of times just that little bit easier and this is invaluable. Referrals and recommendations are a delicate area as they reflect back who we are too but I'm confident in Peter and happy to recommend him.

Our chosen solicitors for our house purchase. Jas has been great from start to finish. Great communication all the way through. If you want easy/stress free/fast conveyancing then this is the firm to use. Jas is highly recommended.

If you want to run up large legal bills on incompetent solicitors, this is the firm for you. I have witnessed the full process of a divorce case managed by this firm and been party to phone calls with their staff. In summary - hopeless and a waste of money. Some particular highlights: 1 - drafting of numerous letter for several months that. achieved nothing but run up several thousands of pounds 2 - emails ignored, phone calls unanswered and appointments missed 3 - important financial information provided by the other side sat on by the solicitor and not revised for months 4 - Confidential information of a property transaction from another client sent to us in error.

The most worrying thing is we have followed the complaints procedure and received a letter back accepting no fault, not acknowledging any issues and dismissing the complaint "we have all worked in a different way last year due to the pandemic" So it appears that the pandemic is to blame for their incompetence. Awaiting a response from a senior partner, will post an update in due course.

An absolutely outstanding law firm. I have used their services twice this year for a house move and for family matters. Special thanks to Carol Dawe and her team for their hard work.
