Services
Choosing the right solicitor can be difficult. There are big national companies with many branches, and small one man bands. Ideally you need a company that has a solicitor who specialises in your particular need and has the experience to make sure that you get the best representation. Pleass Thomson specialises in key areas, matrimonial and childrens law, conveyancing, wills and probate, employment and commercial leases. We have solicitors who specialise in these areas, and are able to offer clear, up to date advice to help you make your decisions.
If you're buying or selling a property, freehold or leasehold, residential or commercial, we, at Pleass Thomson, should be your first choice for help and advice. With our wealth of experience and local knowledge, you can be sure that the legal part of the transaction will be smoothly and rapidly concluded.
If you haven't made a will yet, consider the benefits. It will stop family members going head to head over assetts. You can designate a guardian for a child or vulnerable adult. You can leave personal items to specific loved ones. You can make gifts to charity. For your will to correctly mirror your desires it must be carefully drawn up.
These are vital documents to have in place. The Government has recently stated that they would like everyone to have Powers of Attorney in place. There are basically two types, covering Personal Welfare and Financial Matters. You have to have mental capacity to sign these documents. It is a common misunderstanding to wait until capacity is lost before thinking about having a Power of Attorney. If you lack capacity it will be necessary to have all your affairs overseen by a Government Department known as the Court of Protection.

Following the death of my Mother earlier this year, I had need of a good local solicitor to handle the probate of the estate and the eventual sale of her property. To just add to the complexity of the case my daughter who was one of the beneficiaries of my late parents Will was in the throes of buying her first home and needed a conveyancer who could work with the deposit coming from Probate AND able to handle a Help to Buy application.
My sister and I as executors had conversations with a number of local firms but the only one that gave any real confidence in ability to actually do the job efficiently was Pleass Thomson & Co. From our initial conversation with Richard Dove, right through the process I can only give praise. We were kept informed of what was happening all the way down the line.
For a case as complex as this we were quoted some quite horrific figures by other firms, but whilst Pleass Thomson could not quote an exact figure for probate as obviously every case will be different, we felt certain that we would be treated fairly with costs kept to a reasonable level. We were VERY pleasantly surprised on the final costing and even happier that everything Probate, Conveyancing of the sale of parents property and purchase of my daughters property were all carried out in a timely fashion. Without any hesitation we will be recommending Pleass Thomson & Co to friends and family! A great local firm with a human touch!

Critical: Professionalism, Responsiveness Ms Pleass is rude, unresponsive, doesn't understand the issues in the case and more worryingly, doesn't understand how to run a business. Totally incompetent as proven by legal ombudsman. Do not use if you want a proper job done. Needs closing down by the SRA.

This is the kind of firm that gives lawyers a bad name. I had the misfortune of walking into this spider's nest to request a certified copy for which they brutally overcharged me without so much as batting an eyelid, obviously emptying my bank account there and then, and when I queried it later the same day they basically told me to go away. They charged 600% more - yes 600% - than the vast majority of other firms I consequently contacted (19 out of 20 to be exact), including central London firms, in fact I have not yet managed to find another firm who charge even close to what they do, next closest puts PT at 300% more expensive. Wonder how their other fees stack up. My suggestion. STAY AWAY FROM THIS FIRM THEY ARE ROBBERS.
