After a dreadful start of selling my house and not having hardly any contact in 15 weeks and then being told my buyers had pulled out, I had lost confidence in solicitors in general. But luckily I found Martin Tolhurst and in particular Tom! He was brilliant all the way through. He dealt with both sale and purchase. Wasn't an easy transaction because at one time my buyers' solicitors insisted I had a tree preservation order!
I didn't even have a tree let alone one that needed preserving! But Tom dealt with it admirably dealing with me having a "my buyers will pull out" meltdown. But it eventually, after lots of stops and starts (no fault of Tom) completed last Friday! I don't know who was most relieved! Me or Tom. But seriously he is very very good at what he does, especially calming down a daft pensioner, even though there is probably 5 decades between us! Thanks Tom.

I instructed Martin Tolhurst to act on my behalf for the sale of my current property and subsequent purchase of another property. In the main it was handled efficiently but only after the original solicitor allocated left the company and my case was taken over by Richard Carter and Heidi Gray, who proved to be very good at keeping me up to date with the progress of the sale and purchase. Sadly at the outset this was not the case because if i required an update i continually had to seek out my solicitor for any information and often taking several attempts to do so.
I received more updates from the estate agents than i did from my solicitor. I would have given 3 stars based on the service received initially but would give 5 stars to Richard and Heidi so i think 4 stars as an average is fair.

Amazing Service and Highly recommended! I have and I will not ever again ring Martin Tolhurst after 3 times of ringing over a 3 week period and being told by the same person that your enquiries team will come back to me.and not even received one contact! I don't often do reviews but felt compelled to do so this time as shocked that such a large solicitor that have been in Gravesend for many years have provided such a poor service (no service)

Just bought our first house with them and everything went trough very very smooth, Rachel was a very professional conveyancer and kept us in the loop at all time. Excellent service. Andy has been an amazing help, I was diagnosed with PTSD earlier this year and one of my symptoms is lack of concentration. I would like to express my deepest appreciation towards Martin Tolhurst and more specifically towards Mr. Dobson and all his administrative and legal associates who worked on my case. My case was about the relocation of my child away from the U.K. It was extremely confrontational to the degree of utter polarisation - at times probing the limits of civility. However, Giles managed the case impeccably and thanks to his services I can know look forward into the future with the 'glass half-full instead of half-empty'.
I would like to draw attention specifically to his exemplary customer-calibrated ethos. When the time came and we had to make a choice, while he could easily keep 'churning out' legal costs, he leant on me more as a friend and less as a legal counsellor with the aim to bring about closure - which we did. I wouldn t recommend them to anyone.we decided to work with them as advised by the estate agent, but it was a big mistake.we keep on receiving letters, but when it comes to speak with our "allocated" solicitor.well she is nowhere to be found.when calling the number provided for contact, 70% of the time nobody answers, and when i finally get through someone it is always a secretary and the solicitor is either on lunch or not available. i left messages for her to call me back, and i am still waiting after 3 days from my initial call. we cannot sign the contract for the purchase of the property because we cannot seem to be able to speak with her. when asking questions about the searches performed on the property, the replies arrive after at least 3 days.when normally a phone call would have saved us the whole waiting time.
Then she just goes on holiday, without at least informing us, and we had to call them to enquire about the status of our purchase. so honestly.we would not recommend them as they do not seem to have the focus on the client, and their customer service is something that really needs improving.

My Advisor, Gemma Nie was brilliant, After listening to my requirements she gave me lots of options to suit my needs and kept me updated throughout the whole process. I would thoroughly recommend them. Contracts are now exchanged and completion this Friday 24/05/19.

I needed legal assistance in securing a charge on a property and Martin Tolhurst were happy to pick up from from the point I had reached with no suggestion they should start again - this impressed me straight away. They explained clearly what was necessary to complete the process and everything happened in a straightforward way. They did what they said they would, when they said they would and the outcome was I got the charge I needed in place. I couldn't have asked for more and was happier still when I received the bill - no more than I was advised!
