This a review I'm comfortable to give now that the post completion period of my purchase seems to be done. I think that with an allegedly complicated case it is maybe not that surprising that my sale took a long time (11 months, no chain). I do think, howeve, that GW lacked a level of diligence that unnecessarily dragged the process out. One particular matter stood to extend the process by nearly 6 months.
Easily solved with some direct communication between me and the estate agent. GW is not terrible, but it is on the underside of good service. It's worth being mindful of that. It just isn't good. The online portal (the one that updates you on the progress of your case) isn't updated in line with events in the case. Chasing seems to happen on a weekly basis and doesn't escalate particularly.
There is a general sense that correspondence to opposing solicitors' is being sent for correspondence's sake even when responses are unlikely to come. This leads to stagnation of the case through a lack of investigation of the reasoning behind the delays. They don't communicate about the lack of progress in a case until far down the line. Very hard to know that anything is going wrong. Basically my case could have gone on forever with them if there wasn't some intervention.

If you are looking for a solicitor who offers a personal service & cares about their clients then GW Legal are a company I would suggest avoiding like the plague! Calls are never taken, answerphone messages are never returned & emails are ignored. At the time of writing this company has a 3.1 Google rating & I am surprised it is even that high.

Critical: Responsiveness They are the solicitors of the vendor that I'm buying my house from, and they have been rediculously slow on communication. Weeks to get a response, and when they do reply it is obstructive and uninformed. My solicitor and I have had to do so much legwork ourselves that should have been their responsibility, just to keep things moving.

Dealt with this form on a recent sale, it would be safe to say they were nothing short of awful. Did not return one single phone call or email in 6 months, Very slow at responding to the other solicitors. In 20 Years of being in the industry I can't believe I have come across a firm as bad as this one. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Avoid this company if you actually want to sell your house. Dreadful communication, never replied to my emails or my estate agent's emails. Didn't chase outstanding items from 3rd parties. I ended up doing most of the chasing myself to make sure the sale went through on time. I think it's luck of the draw in terms of who deals with your case as I had one excellent experience with them in the past.

Would not recommend this company at all, especially as a first time buyer. Very unhelpful service, with no "personal" touch. Made to feel like an inconvenience if we called, and were told to chase estate agents ourselves. Our solicitors knew we were first time buyers and feel that the processes were not properly explained to us and we had to find a lot of things out for ourselves. GW had our deposit money for a month before we exchanged, and we unnecessarily had insurance in place for that time too.
