I used them to do my lease extension on recommendation by a 'friend'. Just want to say, Never Take Advice from a friend. Always, do your own research and find a solicitor yourself. Laithes Prior was the worst solicitors I have ever used. They gave an estimate of 1500-5000 depending on the complexity of the case. There were no complexities, just very straight forward statutory lease extension.
They still charged me around 3700, more than twice of the low end of the estimate. They also created delays by not forwarding papers to the freeholder in time and then missed some information sent to land registry. It took 1,5 years to complete! I complained about the excessive costs and delays to the ombudsman. I didn't have a case for the excessive charging as it was based on 'hours' and they charge anything from 6 minutes onwards which is difficult to prove as to what was the service or done as their 'spreadsheets are very ambiguous.
The ombudsman did take on the delays and granted me 100 compensation. To use this firm you need to get a binding lump sum on any work they do. Lease extensions are standard jobs and one would imagine solicitors have ready templates for the work. My friend had a lease extension done in an identical flat in the neighbouring block (identical buildings) with the same freeholder and the same statutory extension and his solicitors did the work for 1500.
Do go to the net and research solicitors. You will find that most tell you the extension work costs upto 2000. I made a big mistake and it really annoys me, but I know that I will never go even close to that firm.

Leathes Prior is an outstanding firm full of professional, diligent, and hard-working solicitors. I had a case that had been abandoned by my former solicitor and I had extreme difficulties finding a firm that could help me pursue justice and bring back my disability discrimination claim. Leathes Prior took on my case and my application to bring back my claim, despite the opposition from the defendant, recently got granted by the District Judge at County Court.
I feel I am in safe hands and I am glad that I have such an outstanding team representing me as I move forward in my disability discrimination claim. Specifically, thank you to Polly Langford and her amazing team at Leathes Prior!

We have just used Leathes Prior to assist us in a Lease extension having been recommended by family members. Dean was absolutely brilliant in explaining everything to us with no legal jargon and steered us through a very stressful and time consuming process. Finally after a very drawn out 12 month period (due to the Freeholder dragging his heels) we have a nice long Lease and have managed to sell our flat and can look forward to the future. We will definitely be using Leathes Prior for our conveyancing as we have been so happy with their service. Thanks again Dean!

We recently received an outstanding level of professional diligence, expertise and exemplary client care during the complex sale of our business - which was handled throughout by Nina Ryan. Nina went above and beyond on every aspect, always making herself available to us by providing thorough guidance and support to bring the sale to a timely conclusion, despite numerous challenges incurred along the way.
We had previously used Lucy @ LP to review and renew our business premises lease and we were equally impressed by her attention to detail and expert professional advice. We would highly recommended this professional company and their team based on our experiences.

Really good firm for getting the job done properly, very thorough and efficient. The only issue we had was with clear and honest communication and being shown any form on empathy or emotion towards our house purchase. We expressed this concern and we're then called and argued with by a partner in the firm who was initially very defensive over our comments however a second conversation was had and apologies were issued and the air was cleared.
We were unfortunately hit by the cyber breach on the third party solicitor at the time of purchase which had a nasty knock on effect and delay in our purchase which understandably made Leathes Priors job more difficult. Other than that we have every confidence in them getting the job over the line in the new year!

Huge thank you to Carla Morphett for handling my complex divorce. She was always available when needed and ensured I understood matters clearly. It's always a worry when you feel vulnerable and need to appoint a professional to deal with matters you have no idea about. Carla is very knowledgeable and professional. A huge thank you once again.

I contacted one of the solicitors in the Leathes Prior team for advice on a Leasehold/Freehold issue. The Solicitor was very friendly and promised to get back to me the next day. He said ' I can't get back to you today but I will definitely get back to you tomorrow' After much chasing he did get back to me almost a week later but with no apology for the delay. This did not inspire confidence in the service they might offer.

I've dealt with Leathes Prior both personally and professionally on a number of occasions this last five years and each time I have found their team to be heads and shoulders above any of their local competitors. I'm notoriously hard work to deal with as I like things done in a particular way (and by particular I mean done properly) and not once have I been let down.
I'd like to particularly mention Edmund Ramsdale for his excellent work recently relating to a property purchase. He really has restored my faith in conveyancing! Diligent, quick to respond and very personable. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend or use this company again. Many thanks to you all.

Almost two years to administer an estate. Worst thing I ever did employing these people. Had I been in a better place, this would have been administered much quicker. On the face, nice people, scratch beneath the surface very poor service with high charges. Covid no excuse, I have sold, brought, renovated, sold and brought properties during the same period. These people have only administered a Simple estate, albeit large. Disgraceful!
