Trusts & Tax Planning

Report

A Trust is an arrangement where someone looks after money or property on behalf of someone else.

Trusts can be useful to manage money or property, or to preserve assets in the event of death. Trusts can also have tax saving advantages if they are set up and administered properly.

Powers of Attorney

Report

A Lasting Power of Attorney lets you appoint someone, or more than one person, to make decisions on your behalf. It is usually used when someone is no longer able to make their own decisions, and needs to be signed long in advance of this happening.

Court of Protection

When someone can no longer manage on their own, you might need to apply to the Court of Protection to become a Deputy for them or for permission to make a decision for them.

A Deputy is someone appointed by the Court to manage that person's financial affairs and in some cases, make health or welfare decisions for them.

Wills

Whatever age you are, your Will lets you decide what happens to your money, property and possessions after your death.

By making a Will, you can also direct assets away from nursing home fees and make sure you don't pay more inheritance tax than you need to.

Estates & Probate

When someone dies, it is usually necessary to deal with the winding up of their estate. This means sorting out their property and money in accordance with their Will or if there is no Will, in accordance with the law that applies in each case.
