Services
One of Lancashire's oldest established firms, we have been providing legal services to the people and businesses of Lancashire and beyond since 1792. The firm was established by the Shaw family and three generations later, partner Richard Shaw became Burnley's first MP in 1868. Originally Southern, Jobling and Ashworth, the firm has evolved and prospered through many changes, merging with Cooper, Smith and Williams Solicitors in 1994 to form Southern Cooper and Partners and later with Currie and Sons of Burnley, followed by Nelson and Colne based Whittle and Whittaker Solicitors in 1999 to form Southerns Solicitors.
Southerns Solicitors Limited ("we" or "us") conduct business on the basis of these terms which the client ("you") will be believed to have accepted if instructions are later given to us. These terms of business will normally be read in conjunction with a separate client care (engagement) letter setting out the work to be done, the person or personnel handling the matter and the basis of charging.
We have a specialist team here at Southerns Solicitors and we understand that discussing the physical or sexual abuse you suffered to a complete stranger is extremely difficult. Our expert team will do everything we can to make sure that you feel safe and comfortable with your solicitor and we would never ask you to go into detail regarding the abuse until you are ready to do so.
Our specialist team will be able to offer you practical advice and an objective opinion in relation to your claim or dispute and we will always consider whether the issue can be resolved without the need for litigation, for example by Mediation or Alternative Dispute Resolution, which are processes and techniques that act as a means for disagreeing parties to come to an agreement, without the need for court proceedings or a hearing in front of a Judge.

Used twice for conveyancing (selling), once for probate and also some other small jobs. In terms of the conveyancing we generated competitive fixed price quotes from their website which ultimately were accurate upon completion. Easy to deal with and responsive to all of our many questions without resulting in any huge addition to the bill. Likewise competitive on probate - happy for us to take over dealing with some of the easier aspects to reduce the ultimate bill.
We definitely had the benefit of their professional advice which due to their knowledge resulted in no tax to pay. They earned the costs of their service many times over - you can't ask for much more than this. Unlike some other firms I found them responsive via multiple methods of communication such as email or phone. Used for a couple of small jobs since and would use them again should the situation arise.

Critical: Responsiveness Contacted this firm by email on 22 June. As there had been no response by 29 June, completed and sent the website form. On 6 July, there was still no response so I called which went to a voicemail for Eleanor on reception and left a message. But again no reply since. Will try another firm.

Wouldn't trust them with conveyancing. failed to amend a land registry issue and 10 years later im having to deal with it myself because they no longer have the file. lady i spoke to was rude and seems if they're not chasing your money then they have no interest in resolving a issue that is clearly of there making. sadly zero stars isn't an option

Southerns Solicitors care only about earning their fee. The fee earners are incompetent, unreliable and rude. I personally know 2 of the partners in the business and despite this my experience with the firm was terrible. They miss hearings, send crucial documentation weeks later and threaten you when disputing invoices due to substandard service. I am a prolific local business networker and shall ensure that everyone business I work or associate with is aware that working with this firm is a huge mistake
