Andrew is our managing partner and is the head of our Conveyancing, Elderly Client & Estates Departments. He has more than 25 years' professional experience and is the fourth generation of his family to practice as a solicitor with Hutchinson & Buchanan. Andrew specialises in conveyancing including residential and commercial conveyancing.
Hutchinson & Buchanan were established in 1919 by the formation of the partnership of William Hanley Hutchinson and Robert Chilton Buchanan. William Hutchinson had qualified in 1876 and joined in partnership with a Mr Bateson at offices in Pateley Bridge, Harrogate and Ripon. Upon Mr Bateson's retirement in 1883, William Hutchinson joined the firm of S Wise & Son (previously J W Coates, and established in 1834). The records of S Wise & Son and J W Coates are held in our library and date back to the 17th century.
Hutchinson and Buchanan Solicitors have been established in Ripon since 1919 and we have been based at our offices at North Street throughout our 101 year history. We continue a legal practice whose origins can be traced back to the eighteenth century. Many of our solicitors come from families who have been practising as solicitors with us for several generations.
Our offices are situated on the left hand side of North Street about half way between Fishergate and the junction with Marshall Way, travelling away from the Market Square. We are adjacent to Marley's Butchers, which has a prominent blue awning, and opposite Ladies World, which has a prominent red frontage.
